In America in the late 1800s, with the westward expansion in full swing, entire towns were built around the saloon. It served many functions: social club, church, courthouse, and barbershop. Men gathered there not just for a haircut, but for conversation, counsel, and community.
The 20th century saw the neighborhood barbershop emerge from its frontier saloon roots to enjoy a 70-year reign as a favorite Saturday morning hangout for fathers and sons. It was a place where a man could be himself—where time slowed down, where skilled hands worked with care, and where you left feeling restored.
In 1997, Tom Twellman, Sr. saw that tradition fading. Clip joints and fancy salons had replaced neighborhood barbershops. Men were losing a place that was theirs—a sanctuary where they could think, be still, and recharge. So he built Hair Saloon. Not to compete on price or speed, but to recapture what had been lost: the restoration of men through the craft of grooming.
